FMZ, I don't think that you should trust anyone to muck around with your registry because they do not have first hand experience with *your* system. If you don't understand what a registry entry means, how do you know what effect erasing it might have? What if it is days or weeks before you see the effect of a registry change manifest as bad behavior on your system? Would you be able to tie to two events together? I wouldn't.

I'm one of those crazy kooks who believes that the registry does not need regular maintenance such as cleaning. I base this on personal experience and research that I have done such as reading articles by other kooks who are Microsoft employees. I'm still waiting for someone to reference an article with evidence that regular registry cleaning has positive benefits and minimal risk.

If you have a problem that may be registry-related, then the use of a safe, well known registry cleaner such as CCleaner is justified. Whenever the registry is to be modified, you should back it up with a utility such as ERUNT:
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

The author of this tool, Lars Hederer, who I think would justifiably be considered an expert witness, has this to say about using regedit's "export" feature: "Note: The "Export registry" function in Regedit is USELESS (!) for making a complete backup of the registry." See the detailed information link at that site for the full explanation.

@FMZ ... Make sure you backup your registry before deleting anything. CC Cleaner will give you the option to Backup before removing any entries. Or you can backup manually ...
