Have you tried going into safe mode and see what you get? I have seen where there are problems with the firewall similar ... but not exactly like yours ... my first idea was like raphoenix and start all services ... but that apparently doesn't work ... yeah I would try it in safe mode and see what happens.

Your Not running a separate 3rd party firewall right?

Actually... I would also try and start ALL services in services.msc

something is hanging.

Dizzy,

I did an intense search on google and it appears that many, many have the same problem but no solution was posted.

Clean your Event Logs, reboot and post a picture of them.

I am an XP guy so maybe one of the Vista folks knows of a solution and will post back.

Post the event log pictures and let's see if anyone else can help.

Dizzy,

Sorry about confusing names when others post on top of yours.

Go to Services and ENABLE AUTO START for each of the Services shown in picture.

Reboot.

Check to see if each of the Services have started plus running and if your Windows Fire wall in now functional.

Post Back.

I think you mixed the names up and... whats AVG Firewall... dont see anything named like that in services section; and I use Kaspersky but I disabled it so its not running

and this is what I get when I click on dependencies

Disagree.

@Bartman,

Go to Services and DISABLE AVG Fire Wall Startup Services.

While in Services, Click on Windows Fire Wall Service and find out what the Dependencies are that are not running.

ENABLE Windows Fire Wall Dependencies for Auto Startup.

ENABLE Windows Fire Wall for Auto Startup.

DO NOT RUN (2) FIRE WALLS.

Post back.

windows firewall.

Can someone help me fix my windows firewall, it wont start
when I try to run I get the message

"Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall service? Yes or No (options)

(If I press yes then I get)

Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall service. (then I can click OK)

then I tried running services.msc and double clicking on Windows Firewall
and pressing start but then I get the message

"Windows could not start the Windows Firewall service on Local Computer Error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start"

and thats it, when I go to my services option and look for the firewall it says its not running and I cant manually get it to run so I dont know how to fix it and im also running vista .... and yea does anyone on here know anything about this?
