You could run process explorer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx and see what processes lead up to the freeze.

My roomate has a computer that operates with Windows Vista Home Premium. Yesterday the extension cord the computer was plugged into was accidentally unplugged(ma' bad) while he was on the internet. He asked me to help because it kept freezing up on him. It flat out freezes, starts with the inability to click on stuff(i.e. maximize a window), than everything will come to a halt.

I tried unplugging the ethernet wire that comes from our switch, and it would run fine(unconnected). So I tried plugging the wire straight into the modem; still freezes. I'm sure it's the internet because I'll hook the wire up, while still running, and it will connect fine, I can surf the web; but a minute or two later it will start to freeze.

I think something must be trying to connect to the internet and it causes this, may be an update or something. It's not his McAfee. I'm not sure what it would be or how to find out. Any suggestions are appreciated thank you.
