@ Rick P..... I have visited the site mentioned by you and downloaded the file, Java Runtime Environment 6 Update 7. But when I tried to install it it is showing a message that 'Unable to download http://java.sun.com/update/1.6.0/1.6.0_07-b06.xml for installation' was coming.

It was not proceeding to the next step. And another message was also coming... with a 'X' mark inside a red balloon with the message 'This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.' I don't know what to do now. Please help.

@ ScottW... I have checked those two options. Both are checked.

Also note that Java and Javascript are NOT the same thing. In Firefox, go to Tools -> Options -> Content and see if "Enable Java" and "Enable Javascript" are checked.

karteekkarteek001,

Go to link below and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

http://www.sun.com/java/

You can configure it after installation not to automatically look for updates. Just remember to check from time to time to see if the program is updated.

Also, you may have to change some security settings in your browsers.

Regards,
Rick P.

I am finding a new issue in my laptop. The Java related applications are not working... (think so!)

My operating system is Windows Vista Starter Edition and laptop model is Sony VAIO VGN-CR220E.

The problem is this. When I want to add a comment to a photo in Orkut which is opened in Firefox browser, it is showing "javascript:void(0);' in the status bar and the comment is not getting added. Later I tried the same in Internet Explorer but the same is happening.

Later I typed 'java' in the search button given below the 'All Programs' option and found one application 'java'. I clicked on it and one command prompt screen came and got closed itself. I understood that it executed its code! Later I tried the task i.e. adding the comment. But not got added.

I also observed one more thing; whenever and wherever date selection has to be done by clicking a calender, the same problem is repeating. For example, consider 'Bank Statement'; for getting the statement we have to select two different dates... from and to; for getting the date we have to click on one button which is similar to a 'calender', then one small calender will be displayed on screen and we have to select the date in it and click OK. Then the same date will be displayed in the concerned box. This is not happening to me. When I click on the 'calender' button there is no 'calender' display.

Can anyone please help me to resolve this.
