Silverbantam

I had this same problem. Have you tried to test your RAM? BSODs are usually attribued to bad/corrupt RAM modules.

Worked for me ;)

@InDiSent: According to the first post the crash doesn't happen when booted in Safe Mode with Networking. It's just normal mode with that problem.

If the PC crashes when you click on the username, how are you able to do any of this?

However when I look in the log there are no errors now.

Any ideas anyone ?

it's probably that first one that is causing your problems, I'd look into reinstalling your chipset drivers for your computers motherboard.

A few Google searches seem to say:
AmdK7 is a Processer Device Driver
ATMhelpr is a driver installed by Adobe Type Manager
Fips is a Crypto driver

I'm not sure what can be done, if that is part of the problem.
Maybe someone else will know.

You can check the Event Log. Here is how:
Right click on My Computer and click Manage.
Double click Event Viewer on the left.
Select the System or Application item to view it's entries.

I tried this and all I got was a black screen with a blue line across the top.

Is there an error log I can look at ? If so where is it ?

Try disabling the automatic restart on blue screen error and see if when it crashes you get an error message and maybe a file name to help figure out the problem. See http://www.activewin.com/tips/tips/microsoft/winxp/basic/20.shtml for how.

A couple of weeks ago my XP PC started playing up. When I switch it on it loads up ok and I get the screen with the usernames. When I click on the username and enter my password the PC crashes and restarts after a few seconds.

I have tried everything I can think of including System Restore, Windows Recovery Console, Virus Scan and Registry Repair but it still crashes.

At the moment I am login on using Safe Mode with Networking which means I can use the internet but I can't use my printer or play music.

Does anyone know of any good software I could use to try and fix my PC or any other advice.
