As all too briefly described above, Vista's Indexing service may slow your computer down and use much of it's resources from time to time.

We'll have more on this later.

What you can do in the meantime is press Control+ALT+Delete, open Task Manager and keep note of the processes that use the most CPU and Memory. Please check 'Show processes from all users'.

Wait it out for a week or so, it might just be indexing.

Emma, I'd be willing to bet the problem is crapware. We often suggest to users of new PC's to consider formatting the hard drive anew.

Assuming you have all the installation and program disks and have reformatted before, it's an option to consider.

I recently got a new computer and its sooooo slow. I have Vista Basic installed on it, which is ridiculously slow. I bought it with Vista, so I dont think there is anyway I can put XP back on it now.... anyway, anyway I can make my PC faster? Its not the interent connection, but the actual computer. My cousin suggested more RAM, but I am not completely convinced that is all that needs to be done? Is there anything else I can change etc to get it going a bit quicker? I am about to throw it out the window!!
