trevelian2, hiya. It does sound like WMP added the track number to the filename. You could probably change the format of the filename to not include the track number. Tell me this:

* what version of WMP do you have?
* what operation did you perform to make it change the names?

I allowed windows media player to update my songs. I was just hoping it would correct any mistakes that I made while labeling them. Well, it did more than that. For about 3 years I did not have the net at home and during that time I collected a huge stash of music. So I named them what I thought the names were. I thought by allowing media player to update the songs it would correct any mistake that I made with the artists name, title, etc etc. It rename them all, but added 01, 02, before the names ! This would take me at least 3 or more hours to rename them again. (deleting all of the 01, 02, 03...). Is there a faster way to do this? I have tried google and come up empty handed. please help:)
thanks
