Lighthouse,

(Solved) will be just fine.

Will be glad to get this computer gone !! The guy is one of my best friends so even though his (wayward 39 year old) Son took advantage of him by downloading all kinds of ugly "stuff", I had to give his old machine a go and try to repair it for him in these hard times. Glad I could help a good friend.

Kindest Regards,
Rick P.

Lighthouse,

That's alright. Copied the kernal DLL off XP Pro over the network to the laptop machine AND XP (SP3) (DID) install. Those (rascals) were substituting their custom HP DLL on the boot up (LOL) (LOL). The files NOW DELETE). Guess they were trying to tie the OS to the machine by who ever put in the first profile as the owner.

Still wouldn't have a Preloaded HP (LOL) (LOL).

You can call this one (Closed).

Regards,

Lighthouse,

I think I see the problem. SP-3 from MS Update site is having a problem finding the System Kernel File. DARN HP / Compaq !! Would (NOT) have one if you gave it to me. They have done something to the very heart of the system to make it very proprietary !! A CLEAN INSTALL with a OEM or Retail copy of a OS including a HD WIPE before hand is the only real way to go. What a waste of time working for free on a friend's laptop.

Darn ! Darn ! Darn !

Regards,

Um...Buffer overflows. I have posted about it before. Where? (about 6 months ago).
So TakeOwnership does not work?

@Lighthouse,

Well, I got the laptop running good with New User Accounts without having to burn some kind of environmental CD, etc.

Removed the Old Original User Account Profile out of the registry, etc., HOWEVER the original account is now just a bunch of folders and files which still CANNOT BE DELETED from the HD without Blue Screening with a Buffer Over Run. Can look in them and copy some of the old data but appears none of files or folders can ever be removed. Not a file lock, permission or hidden partition problem but just a Very, Very Strange Situation ???? Researched on the net and can't find any references to such an issue.

Regards,

Lighthouse,

The computer blue screens with a buffer over flow. None of the files in the account can be deleted in safe command prompt mode either without blue screening with a buffer over flow.

Think the only way to fix the machine is to boot and run in a self contained virtual NTFS Dos CDrom environment in which nothing on the HD is running at all. I don't have such a CD. The machine is NOT capable of booting and running on a USB Drive or Memory Stick.

This is a first for me.

Any ideas ????

Regards,

Have been working on a friend's old Compaq Presario 900 laptop. His Son infected it with viruses and it just Blue Screened on every boot. Was finally able to get into machine and Cleaned Out viruses but his User Account continues to Blue Screen on boot and the account can (NOT) be Deleted. (NO) Restore Points and (NO) HP Recovery Disc. (NEW) Admin User Accounts work fine. Blue Screen error message when attempting to Delete his old user account is a Buffer Overflow.

Question: How to Delete Old User Account without possibly destroying registry ??

Regards,
