I use WMP11 to play all my videos and it works perfectly for me and i prefer iTunes for dealing with my music.

Compatibility, and downloading loads of codecs

I have WMP 11 which is excellent for dealing with music, just not very good as a video player - VLC has it all in one box

Aleeve, what do you mean when you say WMP is rubbish for video playback? Which version of WMP? And what is rubbish about it, the quality of the video or the compatibility with different file types? In my personal experience, I have found WMP 11, for example, to be a very capable video player. Nor have I read enough bad reviews of WMP to conclude that it is notoriously rubbish as a video player.

The problems that I do have with WMP 11 is that it is big and bloated, it's a poor jukebox, and the controls are not intuitive to me.

Ya, WMP always needs a little push. It does not support a whole lot of Codecs. But once you make the Codecs available, it is fine and it rubs off on the Windows Movie Maker making use of these Codecs too. The composite result of Movie Maker, however, ends up to be .wmv - regardless of what you feed into it.

Personally I find this one to be great
http://keepvid.com/

no actual software download
and the downloads are really quick
and loads of supported websites!

also
wmp is notoriously rubbish for video playback

for a comprehensive player that really WILL play everything that you ask it to (flv, even Itunes files)
try VLC media player - a small and stripped down media player that is very powerful http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

this if from personal experience by the way :)
