Stacy, with Best Buy it should be easy. Go to their Geek Squad and have them fix it. They are usually very helpful. I would ask for the manager (either Geek Squad manager or store manager).
The recovery from the the recovery partition is (in principle) the same as from disk. I think it is easier and you know what you have to deal with. Hopefully you have not damaged the recovery partition with your previous attempts. Then you can only go back to the disk (which will create a new recovery partition).

I bought the computer at Best Buy and it is past the 14 day return for me to return it...so what am I supposed to do, ya know?

WHS- what is the difference in doing that and using my recovery disks? Just curious because I am no tech expert!

"Full Factory Recovery" Takes it back to the state as when you got the computer.

I'm just being curious, sorry, but what kind of state would putting your computer back to "Full Factory Recovery"? What would show up when you turn the PC on the next time. Would you need to install Windows again?
Thanks.

I second Lighthouse. But if you need to reinstall again, forget the recovery disk and do it like this:

1. Copy all your own files and folders (if there is anything left) to an external storage (Disc, USB stick even SD card - 1 GByte capacity should be ample - even 512 MB)
2. Shut the PC off
3. Turn the PC back on and keep hitting the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Option Screen appears
4. Click "Repair Your Computer" –if you are not already on it, use the up and down arrows to maneuver to it and then press ENTER
5. Next you have to pick your country (I assume US) and click OK
6. On the "System Recovery Options Screen" click "Restore Application" (last option)
7. Follow the on-screen instructions
8. When prompted, click on "Full Factory Recovery"
9. Click "Next"
10. Click "Yes"
11. Go and have a cup of coffee - don't touch anything - for a while it seems like nothing is happening
12. After many minutes, recovery will complete and you click "Finish"

Hi whs. Thank you for responding. I purchased this laptop brand new about 3 weeks ago. The system stopped working completely; therefore, I was unable to perform the recovery from the Windows because the Windows would not start.

I have the codes of what is being installed if that helps anyone to find out what it is...2 of them are listed above. I have a Gateway M6750 and received 2 disks for the recovery -- as far as why I did not only receive one I have no idea. I am not technical with computers I just like working on them and and all.

Should I restart the recovery in case something happened during the process or should I just let it run it's course. If it is still doing this in around 4 hours or so I plan on starting it over and leave it running while I'm getting some zzz's!

Any suggestions, please let me know!

A find a few things odd:
1. 4 hours is unusually long - even with updates. Either you have a super slow PC or something is not right. But maybe it's installing SP1. That can take a while.
2. Gateway usually ships the recovery disk on 1 DVD. I wonder why you have 2.
3. Why did you not reinstall from the recovery partition. That would have been a lot simpler.
In any case, any help we can provide, do not hesitate to call.

Thanks lighthouse. This was my first time here using this forum so I was not expecting an answer so quickly!
The recovery has been going probably for 4 or so hours now. I just know the other applications did not take this long and was not sure if it was normal for this particular one to be taking over an hour.
Thank you for your help...I just wanted to know that it was normal to be taking this long. So I am taking your word for it! -- and anyone else's that decides to post here!

Welcome stacymsmith. It is installing updates. And 63 can take several hours (depending on your internet and system speed)
It is definitely not good idea to stop it, once it has started.
If you want to start over, do so, but leave it running overnight or something like that.

My laptop crashed on me...it said the Windows registry system was not working. (I think that's what it said) This was a week or so ago. I called Gateway and they sent me the recovery disks. I have used both disks and it is not installing the applications. It is on 54/63 but it has been stuck on it for an hour or longer. I am not sure if this is normal or not. What it is installing seems to be security updates --
WINDOWS6.0-KB935807, WINDOWS-KB937077 and 2 others similar to that.

I just want to know if it's common to take a while ont his particular one or not. Also, is it possible to turn the computer over and start over with the disk -- putting the first one in and starting over???

Any help would greatly be appreciated...thanks so much in advance!
