Sarah,

Randy (pcgeek) here... I've changed the labels on my links and they stay as I changed them. So maybe the language problem is correct. Check that out and let us know if it works.

Good luck,

@Sarah. An update on Vistalizator. I installed it on my other laptop 2 weeks ago, to lend to my French housemate, with strict instructions to thrash the heck out of the machine, and report to me any problems at all. He spent the first 10 days playing Far Cry (sob, sob). But he has since used it for a lot of other stuff and the feedback is, so far, good. with no probs.
(Will get back online) :)

@ LH - Yeah, that's why I haven't tried it yet, because I don't have the time to make a new drive image, before I start.
But maybe next week things will finally slow down. Oh, but first I have to get my new desk up - I have a zillion plans how to make my perfect workspace (can't work in clutter LOL).

Cheers,
Sarah.

Btw - would like to chat, but you're offline all the time:(

Hi Sarah, I've been around :). Remember. Definitely image your disk before you do it, because I know how much you love your customized bits, and I would hate to see all that SarahJames Phenomenon work disappear in a flash. Good luck :)

Well, actually, that was why I thought about doing so in the first place.
And yes, I think I might give that one a try:)

You can see on top that I'm in the folder 'Pictures', but I clicked on the link 'afbeeldingen' to get there.
And rightclicking on the link and renaming it doesn't help a bit. The name stays afbeeldingen.
Same goes for the folder 'Music'. It's called 'Muziek' in Dutch and won't allow the name to be changed to Music.
.... annoying!!! LOL

Cheers,
Sarah.

@ PCGeek - I like it, though I have little need for it;)
But maybe you know the solution to this one too:
I have a Dutch version of Vista Home Premium.
The link for Pictures is called 'Afbeeldingen' by default and I can't rename the darn thing:(
I just want it to be called Pictures - that is also the folder the link points to.
But whatever I do, the name 'afbeeldingen' always returns.
Like this:

It may be a little late to post this here, but...

The following is a tweak I developed (I think) from things I discovered while searching the web, then adding or changing some things I thought of.

To change the folder that a right side Start Menu link points to, revise the following registry values:

	For the “Music” link, edit:

 HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\My Music

 HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\My Music

Change the default value of “My Music” to the name of the desired folder – e.g.
“L:\Downloads”

	For the “Pictures” link, edit:

 HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\My Pictures

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\My Pictures

Changing the default value of “My Pictures” as in the item above.

Re-Boot.

The User, Documents, & Games links may be changed as well.

An added “bonus” to this is that the items inside these new folders act just like any other item in the start menu, i.e. single clicking on an item (shortcut, document, etc.) launches the program; or opens the document in its associated program. So… be careful! For example, a single click on an executable or script file WILL run that file.

Please let me know if this is of any use.

Thanx,

Randy

Thank you very much everyone for your help, Using the link to post 14252 I downloaded the known folder browser, This showed that one folder was Called Downloads and pointed to D:\ Downloads and the folder was called Downloads and pointed to downloads but was actually My Pictures, so I directed it back to its proper place and everything returned to normal. I have now happy with a short cut in my quick launch toolbar to downloads. Once again Thank you all for your help.

metalmick, I think you are going thru an awful lot of trouble for nothing. Why don't you make a shortcut of Downloads and stick it somewhere (e.g. left pane of start, Links, etc). I put it into AppLauncher in my sidebar.

@Lighthouse: Nice idea but it won't work here as these aren't actual shortcuts. Windows is just listing the same folder twice as it reads the same location twice from the registry.

@metalmick: If you run that script again and set the path back to the Pictures or Music folder depending on the script you downloaded then the folder list will return to normal.

The (sort of) easy way out, is to set the attributes of one of those folders (the link one) to hidden or system, and set globally, not to show "hidden files or folders" or "system files" hidden.
