you might want to try and execute the file your self. you can do this by choosing where you want it installed. this happened with my ethernet port when i build my pc.

I don't think the drivers installed in the first place,
In device manager, under network adapters, it says:
other devices.
Base System Device
Base system device
base system device
unknown device

And then under system devices
PCI Device

All of the above options are yellow question marks with smaller exclamation marks next to them

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-47284-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3204947&os=228&lang=en
i don't think this one installs correctly, it extracts the files, but then it says starting the wizard to take me through the installation, however it stops there, and nothing else happens, before i assumed that it had finished, but now i think that actually it didn't complete.

No unfortunately not, that driver was one of the first i tried. I read that that driver needed to be installed before another one (i tried the other one and it failed to install) and that would give sound, but so far all to no avail

I have tried other ones like this
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-10516-1&printable=no&encodeUrl=true&
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-45570-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&os=228&lang=en
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-45570-1&lc=en&cc=us&product=1842155&os=228&dlc=en

I am triple booting ubuntu vista and XP, however i can't get sound to play with XP, it seems i don't have a driver that i can use.
I have installed all manner of Conexant High Definition Audio drivers that i could find on the hp website, however, i normally get the message cannot find MEDIA device, and they fail to install.
I have a hp pavillion dv9200 CTO notebook that came originally just with VISTA
By using Everest i can tell i have a conexant Cx20549@intel82801GBMICH7-M-High definition audio controller
