The final piece to the puzzle, that last PCI device was Sigmatel HD audio driver. That driver included the modem driver. Dell has the wrong model number on their site for Windows XP system. I had written the numbers down when I tried to uninstall and install the dial up modem to force a recognition. I'll keep going on the thread of "wireless connection won't connect on one home computer" as I work on that. The one for Ricoh on the dell drivers list does not work. My PCI device is not the same model listed there. I did manage to get that one off the unkown devices using a driver that worked from Driver Guide. The ATI driver at Dell also did not fully work, I got the catalyst control center and a couple of other items working, but is not fully functional. What I couldn't do (and didn't see) is on the catalyst software, it gives an option to search for updated drivers at AMD. I couldn't do that before due to no internet connectivity. I am now downloading the updated driver and hope it works. :-) Thanks! Tina B. Dropped me right on the Dell page where I see the ATI SMBus and Ricoh chipset drivers. Tina, MOM.exe is part of the ATI graphics adapter software. It's the Catalyst Control Center Monitor. Catalyst is what they call the drivers and software. Control Center is the software for viewing and modifying graphics setting. I have no original cd that came with any drivers. This computer had Vista installed and Windows XP home put on it. Good news is! I am actually on the net with the DELL! My LAN is now working. I have downloaded windows updates and SP2, all went fine. A couple of hotfixes too. I still cannot get the WLAN to work. Won't connect. I guess I need to most of all understand what these two devices do and what they are dependent on. Also, I was getting an error message on start up that MOM.exe could not be initialized. Now it's the following: Could not load file or assembly 'MOM.Implementation, version 2.0.2840.38602, culture= neutral, publickey token= 90ba9c70f8467620 or one of its dependencies." As ScottW said i'm surprised that your computer isnt having a had time without the chipset drivers. best to go to dell for the drivers. If the service tag takes you to Vista drivers at Dell support, then it probably had Vista pre-installed, right? ATI was primarily a graphics chip maker, but they are now owned by AMD. They also made some motherboard chipsets and judging by the "Chipset" and "ISA Bridge" devices made by ATI you probably have such a motherboard chipset. With the chipset drivers missing, I'm surprised it boots up, but maybe it's handled in another way. The ISA bridge could be the problem if the modem is on the ISA bus. Dial-up modems are so slow, that they can easily run on the ISA bus and are very inexpensive that way. If not just pull up Dell's site and pull your system up by type and model versus service tag. Upon reinstallation of my windows xp home edition I have come up with some unknown devices, and one of them controls the computer recognizing my internal dial up modem. Just don't know which one. LTD. Device 0822 OEM vendor Dell I have tried the dell website for my service tag no., but the drivers they have there are for windows Vista and won't work on my win xp home. Can anybody help me find correct drivers for Win xp home edition service pack 1 ? I would love to get SP2, but I can't get the modem recognized to be able to even do dial up. I took the internal modem out, restarted the computer twice. Then re-inserted the modem in hopes the system would recognize a new device, but it didn't work. I know the modem works, I was just using it a day ago before I had to re-install windows. I've been to driverguide.com (my favorite place) and can't seem to get any luck there either for the exact device model numbers. Thanks, Tina B.
