The only reason >SOME< people hate linux and Mac, it is because everywhere they go there is WINDOWS.
Linux/mac isn't as Common around the public.

butchiedog, I second that. If you don't like what's out there, you can always write your own OS.

I personally see no reason why there should be an OS war.

Whatever works for someone and gets the job they want to do done is all that matters. The idea of arguing about such things is more like taking part in goofy juvenile --me-too, me-too, I'm cool, you're not-- fad or like some religious zealots trying to evangelize whatever they think or believe on everyone else.

Whatever OS works for you is the best OS for you.

I never liked vista.

Just 3 months ago, I bought a new machine, Acer 5920G. Hardware specs is quite high, Core2Duo 2.2G; nvidia 8600m/512mb; 250gb harddrive etc, bundled with Vista Sp1 Home Premium. Well, it turns out that vista runs quite ok and stable. There's no reason for me to dislike vista anymore, except, well -- you know -- it's bloated to the maxxxxx

I also install Ubuntu 8.04 in my computer. Love it so much. Linux is a very efficient in terms of size vs function. I also installed other distros, currently I have gOS, Mandriva, Zenwalk -- just for fun. Now, I'm using ubuntu more often than vista. I only use vista to run access runtime 2003 for my tailor-made software. Hopefully when wine -- windows emulator -- on linux is ready and capable of running access runtime, I'll ditch vista for good

Linux is for geeks?? I doubt so ...
Linus is for everyone who willing to learn !!

Conclusion: Linux

for the time being, i will be an OS priest lol,
choosing an OS depends on the area you live in, the country your from, and what you use a computer for...
the simple users wouldnt even know what an OS is, so the might think a normal computer is a computer with windows theme and microsoft office 2003 LOL.

Linux, is mostly known for geeks, programming and all sorts, since it's an open source program, but simple users ( like me ) dont use it, since the installation files for linux are completely different to Windows ( for example, when i installed Linux Ubuntu 7.04 feisty fawn, i tried to install some programs by an .exe file but it didn't recognize it) and i was quite disappointed, so without even trying to fix, although i know there is a way round it, so i overwrit Ubuntu with Windows XP Proffesional SP2. (thats on my other pc)

I am currently using Vista Home Premium on my main desktop pc, and the only reason i want vista is because everyone is using it, and when one day XP falls, i will have to get vista again and get used to troubleshooting it, but luckily all my vista problems have now been solved using no "internet Vista-tools", all you have to do for vist, is tweak with in the system.

Conclousion...Windows Vista.

I personally use both Vista and Linux. Neither of them do everything that I'd like, although I could probably live with just running Vista if I had to.

I use my Linux box for: file sharing, downloading, media server, vmware server, watching videos. I could use Vista for the same things, but it would be unlikely to scale quite as nicely.

I use my Vista box for: browsing, email, programming, writing, and everything else.

I also have a mac, but I'm not entirely fond of it... mostly use it for browsing.

Today an OS war has been declared in the far and distant land of 'How-To Geek'
Take up arms and fight for you chosen side, for victory and glory!

NB: For your army to be truly successful, reasons MUST be given

Good luck - may the battles begin! (as I am only a simple messenger, my views cannot be heard at the present moment in time)

ahem, *cough*..vista...*cough*
