Slightly off-topic I know sorry, but why are you using floppy disks dmoujaes2005? surely CDs/DVDs are much better?

@TNGeneWhiz: Is it a good install disc? Are there any scratches in the disc? Also why are you installing Windows XP? Windows Vista should work just fine.

I have a slightly different problem. I'm trying to install XP SP2 on a brand new Dell 1720 laptop with Vista. I let it boot to the Vista config screen, but then restarted and used the Boot Menu to fire up XP install.

Before that, I had found the exceptional info at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/resolving-setup-did-not-find-any-hard-disk-drives-during-windows-xp-installation/ and went into BIOS to switch from AHCI to ATA and turn off Flash Cache after finding that suggestion in the Comments.

Things seemed to be going well with the install except no .XML files would copy over from the CD to the HDD. Also, several files with XML at the beginning (didn't make a list) such as XML{something}.HDR wouldn't copy over.

I now have a corrupted XP installation that won't repair.

The owner doesn't want a dual-boot option on this machine.

Suggestions, please!

This should work:
Run the install program and minize it.
Copy the folder %TEMP%/IPMx2/All/ to another directory.
Close the install program and that first folder will be removed.
Now the INF files should be in the other directory.

Ok, you probably need the SATA drivers.
I just looked and found the Chipset Driver which has them.
You can use nLite to integrate them into a Windows XP disc.
The how-to is at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/resolving-setup-did-not-find-any-hard-disk-drives-during-windows-xp-installation/

Edit: I see you mention a floppy disc. There maybe a way to put that driver on a floppy disc instead of a cd and make a txtsetup.oem file for it but I'm not sure exactly how.
You maybe able to make one with that driver with the instructions at http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/36/SESSID=48f58a25b16f284ec02748c671a010ad/

Edit 2: The driver above is self-extracting. The drivers end up in %TEMP%/IPMx2/All/
