<description>&#60;p&#62;If your old and new partitions are next to each other you can use gparted (download and burn ISO) to shrink the old partition and the expand the new partition to claim the space.&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;Continued:  My question is, how can I delete the OLD version (7.10) and leave only the NEW version (8.4)?  I want to RECLAIM all my hard-drive space the OLD version took up and use it for my NEW version.  I do not understand how to &#34;resize&#34; my partitions to do this without messing up my installation. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;  THANKS in advance for your help.   ^o^&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;  Lloyd

<description>&#60;p&#62;Greetings!&#60;br /&#62;
    I dual-boot my Linux/Windows XP drive (dev/sda [74.53 GB]). When I upgraded Ubuntu Linux from ver. 7.10 to 8.4, it grabbed my EXISTING Linux partition (/dev/sda2 [24.86 GB] and Linux SWAP file (/dev/sda5 [415.68 MB]), and ADDED THE UPGRADE INSIDE it as /dev/sda4 [8.01 GB], ALONG WITH A NEW swap FILE, /dev/sda5 [1.47 GB]). This leaves me with TWO -- the OLD and the NEW -- versions of Ubuntu on my hard drive.
