Well it seems to have fixed itself. Even the thumbnail works (though it doesn't show anything useful like it does in .avi files).

I won't be downloading a .flv to the desktop again though...

Is there a way to disable thumbnails for one file type only?

Oh, I'm getting that familiar tingly sensation. (No, it's not tinea cruris!) It's my Spidey sense telling me this issue sounds familiar like something we have seen recently. If opening a folder with .flv files in it causes the crash, it's probably Vista trying to generate thumbnail previews. Best to disable this until the problem is dealt with:

Here's the other thread if you want to read through it:

I just checked, it opens with WMP. That always worked before and I used to view them in that.

Check in your "Default Programs" "file association" and see what the .flv is associated with.

http://www.windows-vista-update.com/windows-explorer-in-vista-keeps-restarting.html

That seems to be the same problem as I am having, .flv files cause a crash as soon as you navigate to a folder with them in (a pain if you just downloaded one to the desktop), I haven't tried any .wmv files yet.

Does anyone know why this might be, I can't find anything else useful on the net and I used to be able to view them fine. They still work when embedded in a web page like youtube, it is only when downloaded that it becomes a problem.
