Something of a trade secret as to what resolved it, but I did upgrade the router as part of the solution. However, in redoing a laptop to go with the new router, I used the "Network Magic" program which did indeed seem like magic in configuring the laptop and its wireless receiver when I could not do it for some reason. I wonder if it could have resolved the previous problem. I am out of ideas too - especially with the PC being hard wired, the router really only acts as a switch. Disconnect your own system once and see whether your wife's works. According to network connections, I established a LAN (100 mbps) and when that didn't go, I established a direct connection from port 2 of the router, also showing 100 mbps. I've replaced it with a Linksys N and set it up fine for the base computer. However, the other hard wired computer IE7 program does not recognize the connection. The network connection on the computer itself indicates a connection at the 100 mbps speed. I've run through the tools menu a dozen times resetting the LAN, redoing the connection, etc. Still not recognized. I hadn't tried plugging into the modem directly, and that took care of the problem. I still don't understand why the router works for other computers, but not this one.
