First of all what a great site you have.....just found it.

I would rate the following site FOR VISTA BEGINNERS, and those wanting to learn about Windows Vista generally, simply because it does what it says on the box. It teaches you as if you have no knowledge of using a computer/vista.

http://www.vistalessons.com/

Thanks GEEK for a great site.

ScottW, I am no expert on translation programs. I use Lingoes because one day I found it on the web and it does the job for me. A few months ago we had a poster from Vietnam and I was able to translate my posts into vietnamese - AND he was able to red them. I thought that was pretty cool. I have done translations into languages that I know and it does a pretty decent job. But you have to choose the right translation engine (usually Google translation, which is one of the Lingoes options, works pretty good) and you have to post in short sentences. I have translated a few German articles from the German computer press into English and posted or mailed those in the US. I usually had to do some additional editing. So it's not perfect, but helpful.
PS: and as always - I don't think there is any "best".

whs, glad you like snopes. I had never heard of Lingoes. Would you say it's the best dictionary / translator software that you know of?

That reminds me, I'd like to know what's the best dictionary, thesaurus, etc. website? I use http://www.bartleby.com but I have no idea if there's something better out there. I like the fact that most words have an audio file demonstrating pronunciation.

ScottW, that seems to be a source of a lot of fun. I'll send it to my wife.
PS: For the word "debunking" I had to refer to my trusted Lingoes

My wife gets a lot of chain e-mails, some are hoaxes or urban legends. The best debunking site that I know of is:

I just found the program FileTypesMan. It lets you do many of the things you can do with the Folder Options File Types tab (which is missing in Windows XP).
It should be helpful to deal with posts that need File Type work done on Windows Vista that are no longer possible without it.

It is not a site but I love the Hyperwords add-on for Firefox. It allows you to select text and right click it and look up the selected text on websites such as Google or Wikipedia. You can also add you own(How to Geek is one that I added)

Is diagnostic/fixing software allowed in the list?
If so then ShellExView it great for figuring out what if any shell extension is causing Windows Explorer to be be slow to crash. Or just the context menus acting funny. I used it when the context menu was slow and not working to figure out what extension caused it. You can also use it to disable the extension. You do have to disable extensions with it to figure out which is the problem but it isn't that hard to do.
If not you can just delete this post.

For audio/video conversion, including audio extraction, I am a fan of Super scroll to the bottom of the page for the download. For such an excellent program, the web site if horrific, think text web sites circa 1988. From my experience, this thing does do any type of file conversion that you need.
