Thanks for the link, it describes exactly what happened. I still hve the old email address and the Starband address. However Starband is now the default email and is the Outgoing mail STMP so even using the old email address doesn't work, I tried that. I have asked my friend to put my Starband address in his contact list and we will se if that works.

Have you switched to using a Starband email address instead of what you were using for email before?

Thanks jd2066. Things have gotten even more complicated. I had a StarBand satellite dish installed yesterday, we were on dial up until yesterday and it was worse than a root canal. Now, my email to the 2 Hotmail contacts I regularly email (one is my daughter) are rejecting with the note "reason: 550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons." Ever hear of anything like that?

True that does seem strange but a lot of Windows Live services seems to have more bugs then services from companies like Google or Yahoo in my experience.
Two times I sent a message from a Windows Live Hotmail account and it got sent with an empty message. Even the copy that saved to the sent folder was empty.
My dad had a problem a couple times where when attaching a file to a message the content of the message was erased at the same time.
If I recall right forwarding messages with images in them doesn't alway work right either.

I would think with all the money and resources Microsoft has that they could make better online services then Google or Yahoo but it just doesn't seem to be the case.

He uses Hotmail. That's what's strange, you would think of all the email services Hotmail would be fully compatable with Vista. He doesn't have another service and I'm not ready to tell him it's a Hotmail problem, you can imagine what I'd hear from a Mac user if I were to suggest Hotmail may be the problem.

What email service is your friend using?
Maybe it isn't sending the message right to you. Does your friend have another email service that can be tried to see if it would work?

Ok. That appears to mean that the image is being filtered out of the message somewhere along the path between your friend and You with Windows Mail.
If your email provider supports a webmail interface to your email you should try looking there for the email and see if the images are displayed.
That will tell us if the problem is a program on your computer or not.

I think we might be getting close to seeing the problem.

Here's the info from the incoming message to my friend:
--_fbbecae1-62e0-461b-98ab-dbd252103d89_
Content-Type: image/jpeg
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-ID: <X.MA1.1203004557@aol.com>
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="ATT7573461111.jpg"
Looks like the image is there when he forwards the message.

Here's the same info from his forward to me:
--_fbbecae1-62e0-461b-98ab-dbd252103d89_
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Looks like it isn't there.

Also interesting, the large link to the Hotmail login web page is also in the message he is forwarding. Looks like this:
http://by133w.bay133.mail.live.com/mail/SafeRedirect.aspx?hm__tg=3Dhttp:=

Ok, that is odd.
Try this to see if the pictures did for sure come with the message:
Right click on the message and click properties.
Click the details tab.
Click the "Message Source.." button.
Scroll down and check for something like the following:

------=_NextPart_[PartID]
Content-Type: image/gif;
name="[imagename].gif"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-ID: <[AttachmentID]>
[Long display of characters]

The gif maybe a jpg, png or other image format.
The
[something]
parts will be something specific to the attachment and vary from message to message.

Try this in Windows Mail:
1. In the message list right click on the email and click properties.
2. Look at the size field.
If the size is around 20KB or less then it is quite likely that the message was sent wrong and the problem isn't on your end as it isn't possible for a normal size picture to be around 20KB in size. Though if you are just getting a small thumbnail size picture that would fit in at about 4KB.
Since you say it works for your friends email then I can only assume that the person is sending the correct email to them and one that is messed up to you.
To check if that is the case have the person send the email with pictures to both you and the other friends in the CC field. If you and the other friends get the same results my assumption is correct and if not then something very strange is going on.

Tom, I was trying to find a system in the neighborhood with McAfee on it, but unfortunately there is none. I myself have only Kaspersky and Norton 2008 so I cannot look into any details. I can only suggest you scout around McAfee a little and see whether something turns up. I am really sorry.
PS. When your McAfee license runs out, get a better Security suite. Here is a link on a recent comparison:

Well Tom, it atually worked. The embedded picture traveled from AOL > Hotmail > Windows mail without a problem. So I guess we are back to your "settings". I have to think about that. Since I do not use Windows Mail very often (plus I have IncrediMail sitting on top of Windows Mail), I have to investigate a little more. I would suspect something in your Windows Mail settings or in your Firewall.

Well, Actually I may be wrong. I just tested it myself (had to make a few setups first). I sent an embedded picture from my AOL ID to my Windows mail. The embedded picture did show up in the mail. What I will now do is forward it from AOL to Hotmail and then Windows mail and see what happens. I have all 3 ID's so I can do it. Will get back to you later with the result.

Tom, check whether the images may be stored in a seperate folder (seperate from the written mail itself). I know that is what AOL does when I store mail on "my computer" (which I rarely do because it is safer to keep mail upstream).
