You should have had a Restore Point created automatically before you installed them. You can check on that. If they don't create any probs you are OK.

Updates are also to repair conflicts between the OS and 3rd party programs. Not just AV issues.
Also, they may improve the OS itself. Make it a bit faster, things like that.

what if the updates dont let you on the internet.Like what happened to me ,how am i supposed to find out and could you please tell me why updates are so important. Is it not enough that you have a good antivirus/spyware up to date or is that not enough. As i said before i ran xp for 2 year with no updates and didn't have a problem.
thank you in advance

One thing I will add. It may take a bit longer than the next day. The updates in different countries arrive on different days. But all within 4 or 5 days of Update Tuesday.

If Microsoft release a certain update and the next day there's lots of the same problem being posted on sites such as here, then it's a fair bet the update could be to blame. I'm guessing something similar to that LH? If you google the update number then you'll find lots and lots of info on it, including posts regarding it on forums.

A good indication is a sudden rush of similar problems appearing after update day, on sites like this one. But I generally just google the update number and see what's new out there.

holly. Set them to inform you, but not install. Then hang on a week or so to see if there is any problems with any of the updates. If no probs, install.

This sounds like your DNS was re-set possibly. If you PING the site you are trying to go to in a COMMAND PROMPT, what output do you get?

For instance, if you are trying to go to WWW.CNN.COM and get the error, go to START MENU and open COMMAND PROMPT and enter "PING WWW.CNN.COM" (use the one that you get an error at) and is if it 'finds' the site.

You should see something similar to this,

C:\>ping www.cnn.com
Pinging www.cnn.com [157.166.255.18] with 32 bytes of data:

The IP address shows in the brackets and indicates the DNS has found the site. If it doesn't find it, you don't get the address.

It is also possible the INTERNET OPTIONS were reset to such a setting that cause this, check the SECURITY, PRIVACY, and CONTENT and make sure those setting make sense to you. Check the buttons to see additional settings as well.
