In EasyBCD, go to the "Manage Bootloader" tab, select "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader", then click the "Write MBR" button. Many times it gets set to DEFAULT, which might have disabled prior settings that were needed to boot. Specific one to look at is the BOOT ORDER or BOOT DEVICES.</p> <p>If you are booting from a SATA drive, depending on computer, the default could be IDE drive, which would be the CD/DVD drive more than likely, and explain why the CD boots. Many BIOS in the initial state do not enable SATA as bootable nor RAID array's.</p> <p>Booting after an install or fixing the boot record works fine usually as the BIOS isn't loading that info, but once you power off the BIOS reloads its loading info.
