Thank you so much LH, I have done that, and EUREKA, I have a display on my reliability monitor. It has gone back to21 june, and shows up to 25 june and going no further at the moment, but I assume I may have to wait a while until it displays up to date. thank you very much this has been quite a saga and I have learnt a lot, but hopefully we may have cracked it, or am I being too optimistic cheers

In the Security Tab. Click "Edit". Then just go down the list (group or user names), and set each one to Full control.

I have just found this thread which appears to have solved my problem for some but I dont know how to do the middle bit of creating full control permissions for the local services.
I can reset RAC ok. I tried ignoring the bit about permissions, and opened the command prompt but when I type in RACAgent and press enter nothing happens, anyone explain in simple terms how to do the permissions bit, as when I go to security tab I am lost. thank you

I have just remembered that I did a scan with eusing registry cleaner at about that time and it has a habit of taking a bit more out of my system than normal. I have restored the registry to the stat as before and I notice that the above system diagnostics are not stopped any more. I wonder if that is the cause of my problem. I will have to wait 24 hrs at least to see

Well that has not cracked it. LH and scott what do you think of my observation that RAC_PS is disabled in start up event session, and does not appear in event session, also in SYSTEM LAN diagnostics,System diagnostics, System performance and wireless diagnostics are all stopped. These things mean nothing to me, but may to you. The link that scott gave me earlier showed an example where RAC_PS was Running in event session

I don't know that you have lost it forever. You just haven't found someone in me who can fix it. :-)

I found this thread that talks about the Services that need to be running. The ones that I guessed at, above, were not correct but I was right in thinking that there were some Services involved. I also found this book excerpt which probably doesn't hold the answer, but has some interesting reading.

I don't know exactly how it works. If each entry represents a day, then maybe it measures a certain block of time, such as 12:01:00 AM to 11:59:59 PM. Then you would need to wait more than 24 hrs to get the first result.
