thanks for the replys.

after messing about with it all i figuerd it out

and now have the option of dual boot menu however i now have run in to another problem.

on booting just after the motherboard Asus "logo" passes, The screen is now black and in the top left corner of the screen i get this.

Ivallied boot.INI file

after this passes i get to the deask top only to find my deask top immage is no longer!

not only this is happening. it also feels like im running a system from back in the 70's it is taking about 7 minutes to fully load up and also giving me lots of problms with finding related files EG.

just instaled cubase SX 3 as its the platform i like to use. how ever i have alot of VST's & RATS wich are normaly located in the cubase files but when i go to acsess any VST or RATS it tells me that softwere must close

it then "end task" and with out me even doing any thing else the hole system resest its self and starts up again.

i am thinking about formating an old HD and instaling XP on that and just then cleaning the Vista / XP dual boot off!

how ever i think the partitions have been formated on the old HD so would i have problems instaling XP on this HD?

sorry if i have made no sence .

and thanks inadvance for help that any one is willing to give.

(ScottW) - im using cubase SX wih the Presonus Fire studio and 2 digimax light pipe.

Ez drummer software - RET percussion drums with DFH vst,

along with some other gear. but the gear mentioned would not work with vista.

thanks again all!

new2pc, hello. It sounds like you did half of the procedure, then stopped. See this article by The Geek on how to install XP when Vista is pre-installed. You have reached the point where it says: "We’ll assume XP is completely installed at this point, and you will have lost your ability to boot into Windows Vista..." So now you need a tools such as VistaBootPro or EasyBCD to restore the Windows boot manager and BCD.

BTW, which "recording products hardware and software" are you trying to use that don't work in Vista?

As for what you said you installed xp after vista
so as a result the new boot lloader has been replaced by the xp

so boot you computer with win vista

choose the repair option and then choose the repair the boot

then it will boot both the os

hi all ,

i am having a few problem with dual booting a system i have just put together the system is made up of...

Antec 900 case

bfg 800watt power suply

Asus M2N68-AMSE2 mother board.

4GB of RAM with dominator air flow.

360GB western digital HD + 90GB sata hd.

sound card - Creative sound blaster X-fi Fatal1ty Edition with buss in front and sound ard in back.

I had vista instaled on it for a while however i had found that vista dose not work side by side with audio recording products hardware and software. so after looking about i found out that i cold run both vista and xp from the same hd with dual booting them.

So i shrunk vista put in a partition of 10000mb to put xp on to all that was fine.....

instaled xp no problems its running right now. how ever.... i have no internet so i canot update my drivers...

i also went to the boot menu to boot from vista and it now wil not give me the new dual boot menu from witch i should be able to select vista os or xp os.... :(

im guessing its a driver issue and it wont let me acses the net. i have looked at the driers all seem to be there other than pci bridge device - hd audio device drivers, so every thing should be working.

i wish i had never put vista on my new system.

i was also wondeing if i was to get a new HD say like a 90GB could i from scrath install xp on it with the need of another os .... say if i was to boot from win 98. and then up grade from there or some thing . ( win 98 just an example) lol

any one that can help me out would be gr=rate and and help at all is much apriceated
