Haha, you make me look silly ;-) - ( although it is 1:47 AM here in England haha ) no you are right buddy. Another silly question, should one be turned off before the other, I am just so concerned because I have broken a simualr one by irregular power patterns, oops.

Certainly.
---
Why let the NAS spin uselessly when not needed and wear out sooner.

So you stick by your recommendation then, "If you turn your router off, then turn the drive off as well." ?

If the SATA drive is inactive, it won't be spinning anyway. It would just be the adapter you are turning off.

So you think, switch the router off, THEN the drive, because I would have thought switching the drive off first would be better? Both have a power button, but I usually turn it off at the mains too, recon this would be ok as I dont want to break it by switching it on and off. Unless you think it is worth leaving it on all the time?

Nope, because it is a networking hard drive the only connections are the drive to the router, and the mains to the drive.

This is what the connections look like (below) ...

OK. When you shut the computer down, the drive will also stop running. But the adapter will still keep running.

Yes it does run off of it's own power supply and the connection to the router is a Gigabit ethernet connection

EDIT: When I say power supply I mean has it's own adapter and runs off the mains - (wall plug)

My Western Digital My Book World Edition has arrived today and I am unsure on what to do regarding turning it on and off. Usually every night before bed I turn off my router and all computers/laptops in the house, and because the drive is connected to it, I am unsure on what to do, both have a power button, so should I leave them both on 24/7 or leave router on and drive off, or turn both of them off. I know you shouldn't turn your router on and off all the time, but I do. Image of the NAS drive below...

Any suggestions appreciated...
