If you can remember exactly when your problems started, I would do a system restore back to when you know your system worked well. That's been the easiest way for me to redeem my mistakes.

The sfc program will close right away if you are running it from Start -> Search or Start -> Run because it is not being run as administrator. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories and find Command Prompt. Right-click on the icon and select "Run as administrator" from the sub-menu. You should get a UAC prompt, then you will have a Command Prompt window with elevated (admin) privileges. Now run "sfc /scannow" from there.

To check if you deleted some important system files, run the system file checker (SFC). From an elevated command prompt (run as administrator) enter:

sfc /scannow

dysFUNctional93, hello. In the Personalization window, select Display Settings. Make sure that your "Colors" is set to "Highest (32-bit)". Aero won't work with fewer colors. If that's not it, make sure that your Theme is set to Windows Vista in Personalization -> Theme. Then try Window Color and Appearance, as recommended by techgranny, to set the Color Scheme to Aero and check the box to enable transparency.

The other two issues should be separate threads, or we can wait until the first one is fixed.

Hi dysFUNctional93, I lose my Aero settings once in a while too. Right click on the desktop>Personalize>Windows Color and Appearance. At the bottom of the window is a sentence that says>Open classic appearance for more color options. Click on that sentence and make sure Windows Aero is selected.

Regarding your video not working, I use
VLC for all of my videos.

Sorry I can't help you with #3, but we have many fine geeks here who can help :)

Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
2.00GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

When I first got my desktop comp it was workin great (HP Slimline btw). I remember using the 3D Flip and having the Glassy look. But Something happened? All togther my computer runs at the same speed... but some of the options are not working.

1st. (My Main Concern) - My Aero setting is just not available. Having Home Premium i thought it should be in the Apperance Settings. But it isn't. Like I said before, It use to work. I don't know if it got deleted somehow but its just not there. And im certainly out off ideas on how to try and fix it...Please Help!

2nd. (Additional Help Would Be FANTASTIC!) My video does not work on programs like windows media. Sound works though? I've tried re-downloading media player and all...but its not that. -- is that related?

3rd. When i boot up the computer it goes into a black screen with just the mouse. I've learned to adapt by starting a new program (explorer) and setting it up that way...but its just really annoying. Can i fix that?

Overall any help would be awesome.
Thanks in Advance
