toddyboy, to reduce the process count, use Autoruns to disable startup processes that you don't need on the Logons tab. When you uncheck a startup process, it is only disabled not uninstalled. If it turns out to be something you needed, run Autoruns again and put the checkmark back.

To reduce processes that are running, use Black Viper's Vista Guide to find processes that you don't need or aren't using and set them to manual start or disabled, as recommended.

I hope it wasn't here, because you can't uninstall IE from Vista. IE7 is built-in to the OS and there is no download of IE7 for reinstall in Vista. IE8, if that's what you are running, is basically an OS update. If you remove the update, you rollback to IE7. You can put IE8 back by adding the update again, but it's not what I would call a reinstall.

You could try the Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES) operation. It's in Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset.

well, I was trying to figure out why firefox kept going "not responding" so i took off firefox and went back to ie and in no time its just as bad, but i read it somewhere and not sure if it was here but someone was saying to start ie all over, like erace everything and download a fresh copy, for some reason that may be the case for me. What I dont understand is, my pc was running good for 2 years and then all of a sudden this not responding is everywhere, as far as I can remember, it wasnt long after I downloaded sp2 that it started acting up.

toddyboy, the only thing I see that is potential trouble in this Task Manager snapshot is that the number of processes is rather high. Without knowing what you are running, though, it's hard to say if it's a problem or where the problem is. It would be good to know the number of processes that are running after a clean boot. If it's 58, then that is rather high for Vista, especially when you only have 512 MB of memory.

Keeping in mind that this Task Manager view is a single instant in time, there are no problems with the memory numbers seen here. 80% is high memory usage, but on a system that is low on memory that is probably normal.

Yes Photobucket is the image hosting service needed to post an image here.

Faststone is a tool for capturing the image and saving it to your computer,
usually your Pictures folder.

So you need both of these to post your image to HTG.
