There is just one file, hiberfil.sys, and it contains the contents of RAM at the time the system was hibernated.</p> <p>The Disk Cleanup utility will only show the Hibernation File Cleaner option when hibernation is enabled. If you check the option and run the cleanup, hibernation will be disabled and the option will not show up the next time. This is also called suspend-to-disk in other operating systems. In Windows, the RAM data is written to a hidden, system file called hiberfil.sys that is kept in the root of the C:\ drive. Since it must contain the contents of RAM, this file is usually the size of the RAM in the system. If you have 2 GB of memory, it's a 2 GB file and if you have 8 GB of memory, it could be an 8 GB file!
