My mother in law purchased a used Dell desktop on Ebay, display was horrible with the 16 bit onboard card so suggested that she upgrade to a PCI card. Needless to say, I disabled the device drivers in control panel, went to install the new card (radeon PCI) but can't get to a display (black screen) to install software for the new card. Removed the new card, booted to Bios and tried to setup the (enable) drivers for the onboard card but still black screen. Any suggestions?

Best Regards,
Mike

It sounds to me like you're missing your Southbridge Drivers and your video card drivers.

Is there a sticker on your laptop anywhere? Or are there drivers on your recovery DVD for them? Personally, I would need to know the manufacturer of your card.

Yes, i saw the stickies and did a little search and nothing i found so far has helped me so i went to the next step of making my own thread for specific help. I have an HP dv6433cl. I downgraded from Vista to XP Pro. HP refuses to help me with my problems because i downgraded.

So, what i did was i went into the BIOS and disabled SATA. I then installed XP, which formatted my hard driver. i try to get on the net to do some updates so i can really use it better...but my drivers are missing. What's more is that it won't even tell me what the manufacturer's names are so i can find them. I can't get internet because the drivers i need (specifically the HP Net..something... 10/100 and the Ethernet Controller) so that i CAN downloaded the needed drivers.

Here's a copy of the drivers that are missing, maybe that will help narrow it down:

Ethernet Controller-PCI bus 5, device 8, function 0
PCI Device-PCI bus 0, device 27, function 0
SM Bus Controller-PCI bus 0, device 31, function 3
Video Controller-PCI bus 0, device 2, function 1
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)-PCI bus 0, device 2, function 0

Serial-ROOT\LEGACY_SERIAL000

HP NetServer 10/100TX PCI Lan Adapter-PCI Slot 7 (PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0)

If you can find the manufacturer's (and maybe even give me the link to download the driver if you're so kind) then i would greatly appreciate it (put it this way, you'd be doing 110% more than HP's customer support!....piece of crap HP). Anyways, just let me know and that'd be awesome. If not then i'll just dump this piece of junk in the dumpster and say "screw it" and spend another 1200 dollars like i did for this hunk of metal, well, plastic, for a better computer with better customer support.

Thanks!
