JD, good point. I've seen enough Sci Fi, TV and movies, to know that you should never offend other lifeforms whether organic, inorganic, or unclassified! :O

ScottW said
JD, since we are just entertaining in a comical way, can you please describe the inorganic life forms that you know of?

I can't really think of any of the top of my head but should inorganic life forms exist, I didn't want to risk offending them :)

ScottW
When you say "orgcanicly based lifeforms", I assume that you are trying to exclude other kinds of lifeforms.

Exactly.

ScottW
The only existing teleporters that I am aware of can only transfer quantum states, not matter. We are a long, long way from Star Trek style teleportation.

Right, my bad. I didn't actully mean matter, just couldn't think of the correct thing.
Thanks for the correction, saves me an extra trip to Google :-)

@whs, Odeho19: I compleatly agree with your replies.
I knew when I posted this that "Annoying telephone usage in the current generation" was a very loaded title but it is very hard to come up titles that are short enough for this forum.
If possible, I would have used "Annoying telephone usage in the 21st centry of simi-spolied somewhat-irresponsible usually-young organicly-based lifeforms with the ability to speak usually-intelligent thoughts but not always" :D
I also don't have the time to quadouble check every single post I do to make 100% sure that everything I write will clearly say what I want to convey.

Post Disclammer:
This post is for information and entertainment* value only.
The sole purpose is to comicly point out that I like many other organicly based lifeforms on this planet make mistakes and try to correct them.
Should this post be misintereted to mean anything more then that, there is nothing else I can reallisticly** do about it.

* Entertainment value as in entaining to me and I hope entertaining to you but it's entertaining to you not then I can't help that

** Reallisticly as in flying over to your house to talk face-to-face is impractical and devices like teleporters do not exist***

*** I think some teleporters do exist but they can only transport very small pieces of matter over very short distances

@JD, I posted the link to this e-mail to point out what I believe was a gross exaggeration of what the original post (yours) was. And that was the "Annoying telephone usage in the current generation". I was merely attempting to point out that it, has in this country (US), gone way past the point of being just annoying, but has now reached the point of becoming literally deadly.

Again, I am not intending to get on a soap box here, as I don't believe, even though HTG has allowed us this forum to speak our minds, in a "off topic" sort of way, I should be delving this deeply into what is clearly a political issue. I am very happy to even broach this subject even this much. And I am also extremely fortunate to say that incidents such as this have never touched me or anyone I know. I merely hoped to point out something that had been brought to my attention,(in an e-mail) then coincidentally brought up as a topic of discussion here.

I do have to say for the record though that some of the punishments brought up by WHS, I don't feel would be a bad idea for those of us here in the US to forced to abide by. I think that we get off too easily for similar infractions here, and I think if ALL drivers were punished more severely, that there might not be as many of these types of accidents. Just a thought...

jd, Irresponsible people live all over the world. What is different though, are the laws and the enforcement that keeps those people under control. Of all the countries I lived in, the US has the most relaxing traffic laws and quasi no enforcement at all (which is pleasant for drivers like me but dangerous too).
In e.g. Germany, you have cameras at any major traffic light, and if you pass on red, you'll find your ticket and your points in the mail - and it costs big time. Same with speeding - every village has automatic Radars and on any major avenue in the cities where people might want to speed, they'll be recorded by automatic radars. In addition, the communities subcontract to mobile radar controllers that are at every corner (that's their business) and the police has mobile radar controls too. If you move more than about 20% faster than posted, you loose your license on the spot - in serious cases for good. And it will cost you at least $2500 to get a new license from scratch - plus the hefty fine that can be several thousand dollars too.
Talking on the cell phone is the same. If you are caught (and chances are high), you pay thru the nose. In the UK, I think, several hundred dollar.
Last year I was driving half a mile down the road to get bread in France. I was not buckled up - result: $130 fine on the spot. And if you don't have the cash, you walk. No credit cards.
So I think there is room for improvement around here - for the safety and well being of everybody. Fortunately though, the US drivers on average are much more courteous than most European drivers.

@Odeho19:
First I want to say that it is sad that happened and I'm happy to hear the boy will be alright.
But what that post is talking about is another subject entirely; the need for some people to do other things while they are driving weather it's being drunk, eating food, talking on a phone or text messaging.
The problem has nothing to do with people being rude when doing things like using a telephone as this topic is about but that those people are just irresponsible and believe that they can both drive and do something else while they drive. It has nothing to do with Cell Phones at all other then it happens to be what many people are paying attention to instead of looking at the road though as listed above not the only thing.
To my knowledge it's been that way since cars were first introduced, a certain amount of people think that they can multitask by driving while doing something else when they really cannot do so.

Important Notes:
"To my knowledge" means based on what I've read about the history of cars, I can not go back in time to verify this though for obvoius reasons.
Also I by no means intend to say that this makes what happened to the child in this accident any better just because text message alone was not the cause. Just wanted to point out that it was the person who decided to use text messenging instead of watching the road that caused the accident.
