Spybot ver 1.6 worked well for me as well as Malwarebytes. Try the Malwarebytes first because you abviously still have traces of the virus. If not also look through group policy settings that it may have changed. (It sounds weird, but that's what it did to me.)

I have an Intel 82845G display driver that I have found out is no longer being manufactured. I went to Intel's website for support and found out they don't give support. The problem I have is I did some updates with Microsoft since then I have problems when downloading games and transfering video from my video recorder to the computer and also the 3D screensavers that come with the computer do not work. I downloaded updates for Directx and also updated the display driver but I still have no 3D. I have tried to get information from Intel but they keep reminding me that they do not give support for what I have. Can I get a different driver or a different version from Intel that would work with what I have? I have Windows XP Home. I really don't know much about display drivers and can not find helpful information about them.

Thank you

@Rick, I just wanted to be part of the discussion. I have XP SP3 and will probably have IE8 someday -- maybe when Windows Update pushes it down. You said read the whole article so I was just making it clear that I didn't.

@The Geek, all those features are good. My only worry would be that all the built-ins would cause bloating and slow performance. We won't really know until the final release. I would have liked to see more security features. Protected mode was a great start, but there should have been some follow-up in IE8. How about ActiveX controls running in a VM (a la Java)? How about a way to keep BHOs from becoming Browser "Hijacker" Objects? This would also have been a good time to overhaul the Security Zone business which I think few users understand or use properly, except for us geeks. Well, it's a beta so maybe some new security features will show up before it is released.

IE8 is an incredible upgrade in the features department... I'm still a Firefox user, but nobody should be embarrassed to use IE anymore after installing Beta 2. We've got a run-through of the features scheduled to run in a few hours =)

Blah, blah, blah. I couldn't read it all, it was putting me to sleep. Seems like this is all IE8 beta problems. Is anyone running IE8 beta? What's new and good about it?

There are some apps that I prefer not to be betas or even release candidates (RC). My browser, my e-mail, my OS. Backup software, defraggers, and security are also apps that I don't want to be a beta tester for. Let someone else suffer through all the bugs and instability. I would have to be very desperate to run a beta of my "core" apps.

Welcome to The HTG Forums.

You didn't give any info as to what you had been doing with the machine before you noticed the problem so I guess I'll start by restoring the blanked out power settings.

Go to the link below and download the file in step (5).

Right click it and (merge) it into the registry.

http://www.itexperience.net/2008/03/02/howto-repair-power-schemes/

Reboot the machine.

Hi Mariel.Try the simple things first. In your toolbar, click on the home symbol. You will see the name of the browser.Likely it is AOL.If so click on tools in the toolbar.Window opens to internet options Click on setting for browser.Under general you will see a space to type in your browser.Wise to also do an alternate one as your secondary one.Click apply and close window. Now when you open your browser it will be what you want.Good idea to use same toolbar.Simple once you know.
