Hi Hailmary,

Welcome to HTG.
I don't really understand what it is you want to do.
If you want to keep using a font you have on your current system, you can find it in C:\Windows\Fonts
(if you are working with a Windows system now - do I understand that ok?)

I have never worked with Ubuntu or any version of Linux, but as I understand it it can work with the same fonts.
Taking that TNR is a unicode font you should experience no problems there.
But if you do you can use Font Creator Program to make sure they work on both.
It is a shareware program, but there is a free trial for download, so if it is just one file you should get that done ok.

I marked up some things on a screenshot from their website that are relevant:

Cheers,
Sarah.

Currently using MS Word with TNR/Times New Roman font from Works Suite 2001. Want to switch to using Ubuntu 9.10 OpenOffice 3.1 Writer. Problems - how to obtain version number and copy of current TNR font in order to install onto Ubuntu 9.10. And how to install the TNR font once the version is identified.

Can you run a LiveCD? like knoppix or boot to any CD? if so, then you may just need to rebuild your mbr (master boot record) ore reinstall grub. Usually grub problems will give you an error code though.

If you have the same problem booting to CDs then it sounds more like a hard drive problem or someother hardware issue.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Hey all! you've probably never seen me on this before because im new.. so Hi! but I was browsing around and i saw a way to get "ubuntu" the linux distro. and i tried it but i really dont like it. I was wondering if there was a way to make it more... friendly?? there was low resolution and i found it difficult to locate folders and such. I dont know what im really looking for but im going to try out the "Kubuntu" ( is that right??) because i read that it is closer to a windows setup that even i would be able to navigate. i was just mainly wondering if you guys have any tips for a new one to linux with tips or tricks to make it a little bit more.. comfortable for me until i get the hang of it. Thanks!

I need help and not sure if I'm in the right place but I'll start here!! I'm a computer student but new at it. I'm currently taking a Linux class so one of the students redid my laptop - he installed Window's 7 on the first partition and then Ubuntu - the newest version also so I could work on homework. Well it was working fine until my 2 year old got a hold of it last night - I'm not sure what she did - I know that she turned it on and now it doesn't work.

If I turn my laptop on - it goes through the post - I see it loading and checking on the bottom of the screen - then GRUB flashes in the upper left hand corner and the computer shuts down and does this all over again. It just keeps going until I soft boot it off.

I have checked the BIOS and it looks like the boot sequence is right, I have tried to hit F8 to go into safe mode and that doesn't help either!!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I have a network drive that the network interface has failed. I've taken it apart and am using a SATA-to-USB kit to look at the drive under Ubuntu (ref. this article). "fdisk -l" shows four partitions on the drive but when I try to mount any of them I get the error "unknown filesystem type 'linux_raid_member'". Any idea how I can get these partitions mounted and get the data off of them?

I'm not sure exactly how it was set-up. When I was in school, a sys admin set-up the actual SAMBA configuration. If I remember correctly though, I just used Putty to connect to the share. He could have had a more complicated setup than just your basic SAMBA though.
