I'm choosing gear for my first build and I plan on including three displays. Through Google, I've found that video cards typically include 1 DVI port and one VGA port, but I'm not seeing how this relates to the case. I'd like to connect all three displays to the pc using DVI ports, I'd rather be prepared in the future/not perpetuate older technology(VGA). I'm assuming any new case I buy would at least include 1 DVI port, and that some kind of interconnect will be ran from the video card's port the the case's port; is this right? If so, am I going to find a case with three DVI ports? I also wanted to throw in an SLI or CrossfireX setup, but I've read that these do not support multiple display setups. If I go that route, will I be able to toggle SLI or CrossfireX on or off in order to utilize all three monitors?

I greatly appreciate any input. Thank you.

> "oh as far as vista, im reluctant to get it because I want to make sure all my programs are going continue working on it. I know a lot will, but I know at least one downloaded game does not. and i like that game."
Ok. That makes sense.

> "I can hopefully just transfer my old floppy drive to the new system"
I looked at the Motherbord manual and it does have a floppy disc connector so you should be able to move it.
Though from looking at the manual it appears you don't need to use a floppy drive to install Windows XP as the BIOS defaults to having the SATA drives work in an older IDE mode for compatibiliy.
Note: If you want to "enable advanced Serial ATA features such as Native Command Queuing and hot plug" you need to install the SATA drivers after Windows XP is installed and then turn on the native SATA mode, ACHI by going to the BIOS setup, selecting "Integrated Peripherals", setting "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" to "AHCI", and setting "SATA Port0-3 Native Mode" to "Enabled".

> "rather not get in a software fight ill certainly lose:)... vista seems to be the accepted operating system so thats what ill go with "
Ok, I don't want to get in a fight either. You can pick which ever one you want.
Of which if like listed above you use Windows Vista 64-bit then you should know that it requires 64-bit drivers and will not work with 16-bit programs.
Recent hardware will probably have 64-bit drivers and recent software is all 32-bit or 64-bit (32-bit software is supported in the 64-bit version).
You may want to double check that before buying anything though.

You are aware that Intel is switching manufacturing fabs over to i7 1366 CPUs and X58 Chipsets ????
Realize they are expensive right now but come January, the 775s will be yesterday's headlines.
Suggest you wait on your build for a month.

I'm putting together a computer for myself and want some advice as I've not used the Micro ATX form factor before.
Namely, if I get a mini-tower micro ATX case, will I have trouble fitting in the video card?

Here is the case and video card I'm considering:

In case you're interested, here are the other things I'm planning to put into this build. I'd welcome your input! It's been a while since I've done this. I'm aiming for <$800 usd total with speakers, monitor, wireless mouse/keyobard. And i'm probably sticking to winXP for now ;)

oh as far as vista, im reluctant to get it because I want to make sure all my programs are going continue working on it. I know a lot will, but I know at least one downloaded game does not. and i like that game.

Also, I've downloaded a lot of the same effects that vista is known for, including stardock, vista start menu (though i dont think its actually what vistas start menu looks like), side dock, and also the vista log in screen, sounds, and I believe I can get the aero feature, though i havent really tried it cause i dont really know what it is.

I can hopefully just transfer my old floppy drive to the new system as well, unless that takes a new kind of special connector also

Oh i think the only thing i may be missing though im not sue if I need are possible additional fans, and maybe a different cpu fan... not sure though if its needed.

anyway thanks for the help.. i better get to bed if i actually plan on getting up for class tomorrow.

Ive got a configuration down to about $805 if the mail in rebates work out, $905 with shipping otherwise. but then again, by the time i can afford this the deals may be over. I think i will just stick with xp home for now. i figure i can always buy software to let me have a remote desktop if i really need it. I probably wont for several years as i dont even know where Im going work right now as the market is crappy. I went with new egg after looking at the suggested builds posted. I like the fact they actually have a search that lets u choose based on features. but as usual i went through a billion options trying to find the perfect things. Im not even sure if all my parts i picked will go together. meaning if i have enough usb connectors/ right power connections ect. I wonder if i should still just get the 750 watt PSU from tiger direct that was only 50 bucks?
I think i have to buy a new set of optical drives because i'm guessing the current ones are only have ide connectors. The dvd drive is the standard built in from dell, and i have a memorex dvd burner with lightscribe technology, if anyone knows the specs on that. I sure am wasting a lot of time looking at all this stuff for something im not even going be able to buy anytime soon, unless i use expected graduation money. Oh well, heres my current list.

good choice in both videocard and psu (enough power for future upgrade)
HOWEVER like i mentioned in the other thread, if you plan to buy another videocard in the future to crossfire, then radeon is NOT the way to go. ATI has many crossfire driver problems. Its a great videocard on its own, so if you plan to stick with only one card, then its a great choice but two in crossfire will most likely give you grief.

looks all good, except maybe the memory. its not on the qualified vendors list (qvl) for evga 780i motherboard, which means it hasnt been tested on your chosen mobo.

i suggest picking one from the list, since they have already been tested, which means less chance of any compatibility problems. get a sli ready memory just to futureproof it a little.

once you do that, then i think you're all set. well you could browse around for a second opinion but i think you'd good to go ;)
