several things could be happening. if you have any wireless devices you could be picking up a radio signal. if your computer is shared, its possible someone has downloaded a radio program or left a chat session open. also, someone could have been surfing and you have malware installed.
open your task manager or go to msconfig and see if there are any strange processes running. if you're not sure what's suppose to be running do a scan with Malwarebytes and see if anything shows up.

I like how this build is evolving, it's going to be a mid tower now. Still under budget with the Silverstone case, the original parts and a Corsair 550w VX series PSU! I've still got about a month to think about it, it's going to be a long wait.

Just spotted this too. Looks like an amazing board for the price, but not sure it would fit my power requirements. What say you?

Not much of a sports person anymore, used to play footie, rugby, hurling, etc but I'm much too unfit now. Even watching makes me feel tired :)

I have just recently copied my "Public" folder from my C:\ drive to my D:\ drive. I edited the correct key in the registry. My only problem now is that other systems (computer, xbox (media sharing)), default to C:\Users\Public (which i have not yet deleted). I'm running Win Vista and have accessed the Computer Management window which contains the folder path for the shared folders, currently C:\Users\Public. My question for you:

How do I change that to D:\Public? I cant just edit it there, nor does right-clicking offer any useful options. Is there something else in the Registry Editor i need to change?

Thanks for your help,
Michael

p.s. I'm only moving it because my C:\ drive is full (250GB hard drive, public folder is over 100GB) and my D:\ drive is not being used at the moment.

The Coolermaster 541 looks nice, but the layout is all wrong imo. The mobo sits upside down, it's just not natural!

Check this baby out! It looks good and it's functional & cheap too. I think this is the right case.

I do like the TPower i55, and I like the POST error LEDs. It's pretty expensive here in the UK, and probably overkill for what I'll be using it for. Although as you rightly said it has the lowest power draw. If I can find one cheaply enough I will get it, thanks for the suggestions mickeyblue.

I'm running three computers off a links system router from hughesnet satellite and I believe my anti-virus program Panda is causing system boot lockup. It does not occur every time but I think that when Panda can't detect an internet connection, it does not allow a normal system boot. Panda has assured me that only Vista users have encountered this problem and gave those users a download patch to fix it. Is there a program that I can download that will run a diagnostic test of system boot up protocols to identify the bad sector boot program causing the lockup?

Tony, hello. You could also try running Speccy. This will show what graphics hardware you're using - you should be able to use that info to find the correct driver. Try mickeyblues suggestion first though, that would be the best/most hassle free solution.

If you do need to use Speccy, post the result here and we can help you find the driver.

I doubt very much that you have restore points back to 2008 - in fact probably not even back 1 month. Did you check the shadowstorage how many restore points you have and how far they go back? Type VSSADMIN LIST SHADOWS into an elevated command prompt and you will know. They are dated.

I usually don't have problems turning stuff like this off; but in Vista things have been changed so much I have difficulty finding things.

my laptop is dv4-1114nr. it has a wireless adapter: broadcom 802.11b/g, which works great in both vista home premium and fedora 10.
problem is I made a new primary partition (/dev/sda2) and installed a second vista business there. When all drivers are installed, everything is fine so far except for the wireless connection. broadcom is recognized and works normally. But in network center-> manage you network, the 'wireless connection' is alway disabled, like this:

one goes on to enable it:

and it would say it has been enabled:

But, the wireless connection is still grey. it's still disabled.
so although the wl indicator is blue not amber, I get no connections. Though the bcm adapter is not disabled, the "wireless conncetion" in network center is disabled. and it cannot be enabled.
Did someone happen to come across similar issue?

Since Shadow Copy isn't available to me because I am using the home premium edition,I had to use Shadow Explorer, here is what happened:
My files are still on the harddrive, I didn't delete them and I was still about to recover a lot of them (where ever they were) using Shadow Explorer but the last 3 folders gave me issues so my files are still... I just don't know where... and the start search keeps telling my that the link doesn't exist.
I was able to find my files in the point-in-time drop down list which went back to 11/5/09 where my files were, I then exported it into my other hard drive, about half way through it starts saying that it cannot export certain files, then the program says that it's not running correctly, so I close it, now the earliest point-in-time date is 11/9/09, and I cannot find a way to make it show the earlier date like it did last time, I tried rebooting my computer, reinstalling shadow explorer and system recovery (which oddly only went as far back as 11/9/09 as well) is there a method of setting it to an earlier date or is there a different program to use? Or Maybe something I can change so that it displays older dates like it did 5 minutes ago?

Also, my system restore points go way back to 2008, but since the Shadow Explorer error the earliest date is also 11/9/09.

=/

Thank you for reading this, I love you guys.

this is a basic build but could be better than anything you can buy off the shelf. you can't transfer your old operating system onto a new build. you will have to purchase another copy. you might also want to put your operating system on a smaller HARD DRIVE and use the larger one for back up

I just installed windows 7 home premium 64 bit on my hp pavilion 16660t desktop system. I have an Nvidia geforce 8400gs video card. I run 2 monitors Dell E196FPB and Dell E177FP. Problem is that since installing 7, the recommended resolution for both these monitors is 1280x1024. This is way too high for these monitors and my 53 year old eyes. But, if I lower the resolution, I get dead space above and below the windows. If I lower them to the resolutions I prefer (19 in - 1152 x 864; 17 in 1024 - 768) I get lots of dead space and the clarity goes way down. I've tried downloading and installing the windows 7 compatible driver for the graphics card. Same problem. I contacted Dell and they say there are no windows 7 drivers for these monitors. They said I could install the windows xp driver in xp mode. But since there is no .exe file in the downloaded xp folder I don't know how to apply this mode. Anybody have any suggestions other than going out and buying two new monitors????
Thanks in advance!!
Byrdie

can you not change the resolution and color quality in right click desktop> personalize?
wouldn't recommend using driver scanners like those, if you cant change it from the personalize menu, then go to device manager and see if you can update driver for your display adapter. what display/video card are you using?
