If you’d like to play around with the smooth motion a camera dolly provides (without the expense of a commercial camera dolly) this clever Gorillapod-based hack can get you started on-the-cheap.
For this hack you’ll need a Gorillapod, a drill, three bolts/nuts, and three rollerblade skates. The build is essentially a DIY hack modeled off the clever Cineskate roller system. Cineskates cost $200 and don’t actually include the Gorillapod–cost with Gorillapod is $230. This hack costs about $50 if you don’t already own a Gorillapod ($30 for the Gorillapod, $15′ish for the rollerblade wheels, and under $5 for the bolts)–that’s a substantial price difference if you just want a simple camera dolly to play around with.
