$5 DIY Fog Machine Adds Dirt-Cheap Ambiance to Your Halloween Party

Fog machines add a nice spooky-vibe to a Halloween celebration but they aren’t exactly cheap. This $5 hack will help you send fog spilling across your table without breaking the bank.

For the hack you’ll need a candle, a stand of some sort (they use a chemist’s ring stand), a foil tin, some water and glycerin from your local drugstore, and a pop bottle. Watch the video above to see the surprisingly simple build and the cool fog-like effect you get out of it.

Is the aluminum a necessary part of the reaction? or is it simply the steaming glycerin water?

can this be done with a crockpot? I’ve got a small one that looks like a cauldron and this would be a perfect accent to it!

The reaction is caused by the glycerin (therefore aluminium not necessary but is a good cheap alternative to trying to clean up afterwards).

Not sure about the crock pot – but if you just want smoke in the crockpot I would say yes should be ok (funnel/pop bottle is good on video as it lets the smoke get some height)

Are there any health risks with this?

Gulshan – main hazards are setting fire to your house! or serious burns (glycerin and water are the main ingerdients in professional fog fluid so there arent any significnt ones but I do not recomend sitting and inhaling it as the glycerin can affect mucous membranes)
