Floppy Drives Play the Imperial March [Video]

Star Wars fan or not, the Imperial March is an instantly recognizable tune for millions of people. In this extremely geeky video two 3.5″ floppy drives work in tandem to play it.

It’s worth noting that the drives aren’t hooked up to a speaker that is playing the music. The external gear you see attached to the floppy drives in the video is there to force the drives to generate specific frequencies from their read/write heads playing over the disks.     I’ve seen videos of it done with hard drives, printers, scanners, etc. and it still doesn’t get old.
