So you’re saying that Windows 1.0 was ahead of its time? Cool.
Except that Win8 you can switch to desktop mode and re-size to your heart’s content….
but like religion, I guess you have to ignore any facts that contradict your belief in order to continue blindly with the fallacy.
I’ll wait until they get to Windows 10. That should make MS even with Windows 3 – something usable again.
Design and style always go in cycles. Notice too that the type is clean, sans serif, and there aren’t any of those bubbly, 3d like effects on the tiles. People saw the bubbly stuff and at first really liked it, because it was different and futuristic. Now that people have it all the time, it looks like a cheap trick, and it looks old. Enter the new stage of design, where tiles are clean, and elegant. I bet you that this is going to feel old and normal soon too, and we’ll be back to adding flashier designs, that look more like Las Vegas in no time.
One huge advantage over the current setup vs. the old: The resolution is a lot better. I think everyone can agree that that makes a huge difference. Unless that starts feeling normal, and people start pixelating things on purpose…
Yeah, this is an accurate, rational, reasonable and well thought out summary of the evolution of operating systems (in particular Windows) since since 1985? Right? Right? …
this article was just useless and totally wrong thx
Everybody is going gaga about the new Windows interface, but, what’s under the hood??
Fisher Price interface! This is why I won’t upgrade my Ubuntu. Same GUI.
Like most improvements it’s geared to making things usable for the lowest common denominator (aka dumbest technophobe around) so they can sell more copies. Kind of like what the music and entertainment industries do with tv shows, movies and music. And what creative writing degrees are doing for literature. Gates forbid one should have to think to use anything.
@Everyone-who-took-this-post-seriously… Lighten up, take a breath, smell the concrete. It’s supposed to be funny, and it is. You’re not *actually* going to compare Win 7 with Win 1, are you?! Geez
@How-to-Geek… +1 for originality and creativity… love it!
Man that takes me back in time. Windows 1.01, compared to the competition it was fantastic! And it fit on a 5.25″ floppy disk (the floppy floppy). Love the comparison; It is amazing how we come full circle to something we knew long ago (out of sight out of mind). Even on my Android phone I only use one home screen. Everything else is in the app drawer.
