Inside an Autonomous Google Car in Action [Video]
Videos have been floating around of the Google cars driving around test tracks, but what about the view from inside the self-driving cars? Step inside with this video.
YouTube user Jurvetson got a chance to ride in the back of a Google prototype vehicle and videotaped the ride. Watch the above video to get a taste of what it’s like when the car takes over and you can kick back and relax. If you’re curious how this modern driving magic happens, here’s a snippet from the description of his video:
Two computers tucked into the trunk are doing all the steering, braking and acceleration by issuing commands to the drive-by-wire bus already designed into modern hybrid and electric cars.
The spinning LIDAR on the room maps the environment in 3D, including pedestrians and, in this case, traffic cones. A camera to the side of the rear view mirror tracks the road. Three radar in the front bumper and one in back also detect proximal objects. GPS, inertial sensors and wheel-speed monitors give feedback to the computer on the car’s performance.

When he's not documenting mods and hacks he's doing his best to make sure a generation of college students graduate knowing they should put their pants on one leg at a time and go on to greatness, just like Bruce Dickinson. @greendiamnond
OH SHI-
Windows has encountered an error and has shut down to prevent damage to your system! I guess the car will have to fend for itself ;-)
It’s the human componant that forces our current speeds between reaction time and flat out incompetence it’s amazing anyone gets anywhere. If you’ve ever been hit by some one putting on makeup or rear ended by someone trying to finish a report on there laptop then you’ll probably agree even with how bad an abused system can get I’d much rather trust the computer then the idiot in the car.
Woman: “How many people have driven this thing?”
Correct Answer: “NONE”
