This happened to me but not quite in the same way. I had Google Navigator (via Maps) running, and it didn’t know about the new bypass… which went over the Tar River in North Carolina. So it’s warning me as I’m not on any road it knows. I forget just how it acted, this was a year ago, but it seemed to think I’d driven into the river and it just went batshit crazy. (They’ve since added the bypass and it works, but they don’t recommend using it even when it’s faster.)
