Sous vide cookers are an awesome way to precisely cook food but they cost a fortune. This DIY solution gives you sous vide flavor without a hit to your wallet.
Sous vide, for the unfamiliar, is a process of cooking food in water at precisely controlled temperatures. For example, you can cook a steak by putting it in a vacuum-sealed plastic bag and then cooking it to the exact temperature you want. You’ll never have an undercooked or overcooked steak again. In the above video Jeff Porter, author of the book Cooking for Geeks, shows how you can hack a cheap crock pot into a sous vide cooker.
