Hide and Show the Tab Bar in Firefox with a Custom Keyboard Shortcut Combo

There is no doubt that multiple tab browsing is a wonderful thing, but what if you want to conserve some vertical screen real-estate? Now you can hide and show the Tab Bar in Firefox as needed with a customized keyboard shortcut using the Hide Tabbar extension.

Here are the options for the extension. You can quickly customize how Hide Tabbar works to make it fit in nicely with your other keyboard shortcuts. If you love the idea of an auto-hide feature, then you can enable that as well with a custom time setting.

As you can see there are a lot of keyboard shortcut combo options available. We decided to experiment and shorten things up a bit more on our system by setting the “hide tab bar trigger” using only the Page Up Key without a combo (which worked perfectly well).

Note: Works with Firefox 4.0 – 4.0.*

@inpixies – The one drawback to the User Style you shared is that it is not cross-platform. :(

Personally, I just use the fullscreen option – tree style tabs does a nice slide-out/slide-in deal with the left edge.

I did install this now and it is a good feature. But never the auto hide option be selected.

If you use Moveable Firefox button to put the button on the address bar and then select Tabs On Top the tab bar moves onto the blue-waste-of-space bar.

I use Firefox 4, It looks completely different.
Basicly I get two line worth of stuff on top of the screen, The rest is space for web pages.
As far as screen real estate goes, It cant get any better :)

Im a Firefox fan as of about 1 year ago.
