Trillian 5 Released; Nearly All Premium Features Now Free

Trillian, the IM Swiss Army knife from Cerulean Studios, just updated and every premium feature (except for cloud-based logging) is free.

Trillian will still rock a Free/Pro arrangement but the Free side of things just got a whole lot more awesome. All the great but previously premium features like themes, activity history viewer (a super charged chat log viewer that includes bookmarking), and multi-location sign-in with seamless switching between chat clients (no more messages getting lost when you move between your phone and desktop, for example). Right now the shift-to-free only affects the Windows edition but the Mac and mobile editions will receive the same feature shift in their next update rotation.

The premium version has shifted to a subscription model. For $12 a year you get the same feature bundle with no advertisements and cloud-based chat log storage and syncing. You can read more on the Trillian blog here or hit up the link below to download a copy.

    Thanks for the update!

    I’d love to see a comparison post sometime to duke it out between Trillian and Digsby.

    I used Trillian for awhile, but it seemed to really eat away at my RAM. Does anyone know if it maybe has / had a memory leak?

    What is Trillion and why should I use it :S?

    @Nathan
    it’s a chat client that allows you to connect to all major IM networks at once (Yahoo messenger, AIM, MSN, Skype, ICQ, etc). So you don’t have to keep a bunch of IM programs on your computer

    Ahhh I get it, I assumed it would be something like this, but just wanted to clarify.

    Thanks :)

    Trilian 5. I used it since beta and it’s awesome.
    Not a memory eater unlike windows live messenger. Light, speed, multi network!

    I’ve been using trillian since 2.0.

    I dropped it for a few years after an employer’s network admin banned it and moved to google talk. When I recently went back to a 4.x version, I discovered that Trillian does not cleanly exit when I close it, leaving a zombie process behind that effectively blocks me from starting the again. I’m forced to use Task Manager or Process Explorer to find the process and manually kill it before I can re-launch trillian.

    Unfortunately, this still happens to me in V5.

    I like the program, though, so don’t get the wrong idea.
