Create Pop Rocks in Your Kitchen [Food Lab]
If you prefer your mad scientist experiments to be more of the delicious and fizzy variety rather than the genetically-modified animals with laser beams variety, this DIY Pop Rocks recipe has all the makings of a fun weekend project.
Instructables user ChickFlix shares a tutorial for cranking out your own custom flavored Pop Rocks style candy. You’ll need a handful of common kitchen ingredients (although a few, such as citric acid crystals are tougher to locate) and some other kitchen essentials like a pastry brush and a candy thermometer. The best part is you can flavor them anyway you want–gin and tonic flavor? lemon meringue? if you can find a way to get a liquid flavor in you can make pop rocks that taste like it.
