Install a GUI App to Easily Change Unity 2D’s Settings in Ubuntu 11.04

Are you looking for an easy way to tweak the settings for Unity 2D on your Ubuntu 11.04 system? Then we have the perfect app to share with you. Mariano Chavero has created a simple, easy to use GUI app that will let you tweak Unity 2D’s settings in just moments.

To get started download the appropriate version for your computer (32 or 64 bit) and install the .deb file using the Ubuntu Software Center.

Once the installation has been completed just do a quick search by entering “2D” to find and launch the app. Make any desired changes and close the window when done…the changes are automatically applied.

Mariano has also listed some odd problems that you may experience while using this app and the work-arounds for them.

I have tried Ubuntu 11.04 and it was very very amazing.. I liked the 2D animations of Unity.. and the only thing that I missed is the auto-hide option for the new bar.. thank you..

I am very excited for the stable release this week! I love the unity idea and I hope it takes off. Next to Arch, Ubuntu is the best distro.

I installed this app in my Ubuntu 11.04 beta (updated today) amd64; some of the preferences in the 2d-Desktop Settings are not available: Unity Dash and Enable Comositing.
    Did I do something wrong?

    Juan,

Do you read “2D-Desktop Settings (Unity Session Only)” on top of the window? If so, log out and select “Unity-2D” at the bottom of your login screen. Otherwise, you wont be able to customize Unity-2D and will get some features grayed out as well as some other problems in your system trying to run Unity-2D Session over Ubuntu Session.
