Some people stack their networking gear on their desk, some people tuck it out of sight in the basement, and some people strip the cases off and frame it like art.
Andreas K., an IKEA Hackers reader from Germany, took a Ribba IKEA shadowbox frame and turned it into a display case for his router, switch, and wireless node. The network devices are still fully functional, they’re just outside of their regular plastic cases and showcased inside the glass. The idea and the design is really clever but we’d be worried about heat build up in the enclosed space shortening the life of our devices–a system of small vent slots around the frame seem like a good addition to the design.
