View Clutter-Free Webpages in Chrome and Iron for Smooth, Pleasant Reading

Are you tired of visiting webpages full of clutter where the content you want to see is totally lost within it? Now you can view those same webpages clutter-free with the Text Only, Please! extension for Chrome and Iron.

As you can see in our screenshot above, the article images are retained but all other website items are totally removed in order to provide a smooth, pleasant reading experience. There is even an option to create a PDF from the webpage if desired.

Using the extension is easy to do. To engage the “text-only” function right click on the desired link and select Open in text-only mode. The link will be opened in a new tab and you are ready for some terrific streamlined reading.

Update: The extension now comes with a convenient toolbar button and will soon implement a shortcut key that will reload the current tab in text only mode.

    Thanks for featuring my extension!

This is my first tryst with programming something that’d actually help in the real world.

Although you can open a new link in text mode by right clicking and choosing the appropriate option, you cannot quickly reload the current page in text mode. I plan to add a toolbar icon to resolve this need.

ViewText.org provides an API, and I plan to use it in the future to take advantage of the PDF options.

If you guys have got suggestions, please do leave them here. Thank you :)

As a blind man, this extension has obvious benefits. Is it available for Firefox, as well? Chrome has been very slow when it comes to accessibility.

@Doug Thanks for your interest! I haven’t made it available for Firefox yet, but you can go to http://www.viewtext.org and type in the address of any website – it will give you the same in text only format. :)
