What is the Internet? From the Today Show January 1994 [Historical Video]
Here is an interesting look back at the discussion the hosts of the Today Show had concerning what the Internet was in 1994.
Update: A alternate upload of the video has been found so that it is available for viewing once again.
Special thanks to HTG ETC reader Goran for finding and sharing an alternate upload of this video so quickly!

WTF! lol lol lol lol lol these people had no idea…
What is this internet you speak of…? You say I’m using it right now? Inconceivable! (“I do not think that word means what you think it means” TPB ftw)
My parents called the @ sign that mouse tail symbol…
Should have just told them it’s another way to get pron.
I remember in ’98 calling my brother and asking what the difference was between the World Wide Web and the Internet and wanted him to explain in layman’s terms what a browser did. Needed to know before I dropped $1,000 on an IBM E4N with a 333 MHZ chip and 8MB RAM.
This makes me nostagic. The first time I ever used Internet was in mid-1998. I used IE back then. Netscape kinda sucked.
Right now, all I get is “Video removed by user” – that’s both here and on YouTube. Que pasa?
There is no video man, it says video removed by the user.
Reporters then and now…. R-E-T-A-R-D-O !!

nothing more annoying than a hand-held vidcam pointed at a TV screen
That was 1994! Think about what was happening then. Windows 95 hadn’t even been released. IBM was still trying to sell their OS2/Warp (although adds had pretty much dried up by then). Computer viruses were still sort of a mysterious joke. Many people still knew what MS-DOS was cause they were probably still using Windows 3.11. And many of us “old timers” were still dialing into BBS’s!!!
I think Katie Curic was still at NBC when Matt Lauer still had hair even. Frankly, I’m surprised any of them even knew what a computer was. Then again, they didn’t exactly say that the “Internet” was even a computer related thing either. Did they?
