10 Weird Gaming Records from the Guinness Book

Things have changed a bit in the Guinness Book of World Records we poured over in our youth; the new version has pages worth of entries related to video games. Here are some of the more colorful ones you likely didn’t know about.

Wired magazine has compiled a list of 10 interesting records related to video gaming from the Guinness Book of World Records Gamer’s Edition (didn’t know such a specialized version existed? Don’t feel bad, we were surprised too).

Among the more colorful records they scoured the book for:

Most “F” Words in a Videogame

Winner: Mafia II

How it won: While 2K’s mob-themed action-adventure game didn’t snag any 2010 Game of the Year awards, it is the front-runner for Most Obscene Script. Mafia II can drop up to 397 F-bombs in an average 12-hour play-through. That’s 33 per hour, or an average of one every two minutes.

If you’ve played Mafia II you might have suspected it had a ton of obscenities in it but now you cite the actual number with confidence. Check out the full article at the link below for the scoop on most lines of commentary in an NFL video game, longest survival on the hardest Grand Theft Auto level, and more.

10 Guinness Gaming Records You Didn’t Know Existed [Wired]

Jason Fitzpatrick is a warranty-voiding DIYer who spends his days cracking opening cases and wrestling with code so you don't have to. If it can be modded, optimized, repurposed, or torn apart for fun he's interested (and probably already at the workbench taking it apart). You can follow him on if you'd like.

OMG… I thought it was GTA San Andreas :D

@Hatryst: I’m totally out of the loop when it comes to “mature” games… I recently played House of the Dead Overkill and thought “Wow, that’s a lot of f-bombs in one game!” Apparently I have see nothing yet. ;-)

$330,000 for a virtual property???!!!!! Thats crazy!

They may need to be more specific with the GTA IV one. 16min 16sec is just a little longer then half the time I spent with 6 stars without dying or dropping any. Henrik Lindholm definitely deserves the award because he actually fought his way threw 6 stars. I managed to find a little glitch and stood on a boat for half an hour.
