Spybot Search and Destroy Now Available as a Portable App (PortableApps.com)
Is Spybot Search & Destroy an integral part of your anti-malware arsenal? Up until now you have always needed to install it locally on a machine to use it, but no longer. The good folks at portableapps.com have made a portable version available for download and use.
Note 1: Keep in mind that at this time portable Spybot Search & Destroy is in a Development Test Release phase.
Note 2: The app is a 20 MB download and 53 MB when extracted.

8-O How did you know I was looking at portable spyware cleaners?! HTG, have you been spying on me?!
One thing to note, this is not a development test release anymore, this is a final release app. It was released as a final release app on the 3rd of this month.
Also, that story on BetaNews is about a month old.

Why use this? Most Anti-Virus solutions like MSE, Avira, Eset Nod32, etc include Ad-ware/Spyware protection. No need to install this anymore. The only thing I would recommend using would be Malwarebytes, as it is an effective solution with any Anti-Malware package.
I tend to agree with Yoshiyah. I gave up on Spybot years ago when it was a pig on system resources and brought older systems to their knees when it ran. I use a couple of antivirus applications as well as Malwarebytes free version.
I gave up on Spybot about 3 years ago because I found it did a poor job removing threats. Some tasks the end-user has to do manually. Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware as on-demand scanners along with your real-time protection “anti-virus” do a pretty good job. Since it has been 3 years and now there’s a portable version, maybe I’ll give it a chance. I don’t really hear about it anymore on malware removal communities.
I’m understandably cautious to use any “portable” application not issued by the developer.
